Following the sudden and unexpected passing of Glenn "Mooch" Myernick in 2006, Charlie Inverso, Mike Van Wagner and Ken Andres wanted to find a way to respect and sustain the love of the beautiful game that Mooch demonstrated through a life commitment to the sport. In April, 2007, supported by many incredible Mercer County area coaches and former players who played both with and against Mooch, Charlie, Mike and Ken formed Mooch Soccer. The primary mission of Mooch Soccer is to provide free, high-quality youth soccer programs for underserved children in Trenton and and surrounding communities. Staffed by experienced and caring coaches, these programs support the physical, social and emotional development of participants while teaching them advanced soccer skills, team building, personal accountability and the confidence to compete. Mooch was one of the most beloved and successful soccer players to ever come out of Mercer County. He was a Herman Trophy winner (national collegiate player of the year), captain of the US National team, head coach of the Colorado Rapids and a US National team assistant coach in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. Mooch was a champion of the game in every sense of the word. Since it's founding, Mooch Soccer has positively impacted over 1,000 children, and former Mooch players have enjoyed success both on and off the field, going on to college and/or careers and several to professional soccer. Matthew Olosunde, a member of the first-ever Mooch travel team, has represented the United States in the Under-17 World Cup, was capped for the US Men's National Team and has played professionally with Manchester United's reserve team and Preston North End of the English Championship League These successes inspire us to do more and we are excited by the possibilities which lie ahead. Your support - financially and/or as a volunteer coach - will help to continue our efforts to make sure the underserved kids in and around our Capital City have the opportunity to play, enjoy, and excel at "the beautiful game".
